After graduating from Florida Bible College in 1971, Dr. Scudder and his wife, Linda, moved to Chicago to begin their ministry. In 1972, full of faith and with a great burden for souls, Dr. Scudder began an independent Bible-believing church on Fullerton Avenue in Chicago and called it the Chicago Bible Church. This storefront church was the beginning of an incredible vision that would lead untold thousands to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Property was soon purchased on Quentin Road in Palatine, Illinois thus giving the name Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church. It was on this five acres that
Dr. Scudder began not only the Quentin Road Christian School for grades K-12, but also the Dayspring Bible College.
Due to steady and increasing growth of both the church and schools it became apparent that a bigger building was needed. Stepping out on faith, the church bought 40 acres of farmland in Lake Zurich, incredibly enough, still located on Quentin Road just 8 miles north. The 24,000 square foot multipurpose building was built entirely by the dedicated men and women of the church.
In 1985 the Quentin Road Christian Preschool began with a handful of children. Parents from all over Chicagoís northwest suburbs began enrolling their 3 to 5 year old children in our year round preschool program. Now with nearly 2,000 children enrolled annually, it has become one of the nationís largest Christian preschools.
With so many activities in a growing church, including the sports programs of the Christian schools, as well as other youth programs, there arose a need for a multi-purpose facility with a gymnasium. Once again the men and women of the church pitched in to build a 12,000 square-foot, full-size gymnasium, complete with a beautiful wood floor, and locker rooms. The gym quickly became a favorite spot for fans of the Quentin Road Eagles volleyball and basketball teams as it hosted many tournaments and close games with its Christian school rivals. This facility also houses the printing presses, graphic arts studios, customer service department, and shipping department of Victory In Grace Ministries.
In the fall of 1992 Dr. Scudder, along with his dedicated church family, began to pursue the possibility of spreading the clear Gospel of grace through television. On May 16, 1993 , the Quentin Road Bible Hour television broadcast aired for the first time. (The show was later renamed to Victory In Grace) This broadcast is now seen on many local and international networks.
Victory In Grace, the radio program featuring Dr. Scudder, aired for the first time on April 13, 1997 . Over the years, many lives have been changed because of the verse-by-verse expository preaching of Dr. Scudder and his love for the clear Gospel message.
With many different growing ministries, the present facilities of Quentin Road became too small and a 76,000 square foot auditorium and multipurpose building was completed in 1997, again by the faithful members of Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church . Housed in this gleaming-new addition is a 3,000-seat auditorium, a large commercial kitchen and cafeteria, a second gymnasium, a swimming pool, an indoor playland for the preschool children, administrative offices and editing studios for the Victory in Grace Publishing and Broadcast Ministries.Ē
Dayspring Bible College and Seminary, in partnership with the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church, purchased a 131⁄2-acre campus. This beautiful property has 7 buildings, including 2 large dormitories, a gymnasium, a brand new commercial kitchen, a cafeteria, an academic building, and married student apartments. And itís less than 5 miles from the churchís 43-acre campus. God performed many miraculous acts that have allowed us to acquire this beautiful property, which is completely surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods and trails. This miracle of God is going to advance Dayspring to a new level as we train the next generation of servant-leaders for the Lord.
Today Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church serves the community and the world through a variety of outreaches, each with the simple goal of reaching the lost with the love of Jesus Christ and building up believers in their faith.
